Isabella Abbonizio is an internationally recognized guitarist, musicologist, educator, and examiner with over 20 years of teaching experience in the United States and Italy. She works with children, teens, and adults of all levels—from complete beginners to advanced and pre-professional students—offering highly personalized instruction tailored to each student’s goals, learning style, and musical interests.
A certified Guitar and Music Theory Teacher with The Royal Conservatory of Music, Isabella also serves as a College Examiner and Presiding Examiner. Over the course of her career, she has guided hundreds of students toward outstanding achievements, including RCM Gold Medals, Awards of Excellence, successful NYC specialized schools and college admissions, and confident public performances. Selected students have been invited to perform at prestigious NYC venues, including Carnegie Hall’s Annual Celebration of Excellence Recital.
Isabella’s teaching approach combines strong technical foundations, musicianship, creativity, and stage confidence. Students receive structured yet encouraging guidance, whether they’re picking up the guitar for the first time or preparing for exams, auditions, and recitals.
A Research Affiliate at New York University, Isabella brings together academic depth, professional performance experience, and modern pedagogical expertise to create engaging, effective lessons for students of all ages.
As an active performer, Isabella appears internationally as a soloist and chamber musician. She is the founding member of the Artemis Guitar Duo (with guitarist Katty Mayorga) and the Aris Duo (with flutist Sarah Rulli). Through these ensembles, she has premiered and championed new works by emerging and female composers. In 2018, she was featured by Ramirez Guitars at the NAMM Show in Anaheim, California.
She has performed in masterclasses with internationally acclaimed guitarists including Judicaël Perroy, Roland Dyens, Frédéric Zigante, Paulo Bellinati, Martha Masters, and João Luiz.
Isabella holds a Guitar Diploma from the Conservatory ‘G. B. Martini- of Bologna (Italy), and a Ph.D. in Musicology from the University of Rome. In addition to teaching and performing, Isabella is Co-Founder and Co-Artistic Director of the Lanciano International Guitar Seminar and Founder and Director of DalMaestro.
