When the world was gripped by the pandemic, the performing arts emerged as a beacon of hope and connection. Despite the challenges, we found innovative ways to continue sharing the beauty of music, bridging distances and bringing people together in the virtual realm. With live performances on hold, technology became our stage, enabling us to collaborate and create in ways we never imagined.
Last summer marked the beginning of an extraordinary journey—a virtual ensemble collaboration with the esteemed MusArt flute school in Italy, led by the talented flutist Sarah Rulli. This partnership resulted in the production of three captivating videos featuring flute and guitar duets, showcasing the incredible synergy between our guitar students and their flute Italian counterparts.
The process was intricate yet immensely rewarding. Students diligently practiced their parts in isolation, recording their segments to a click track. Through the magic of technology, they rehearsed together, each guided by the other’s recording, until their performance reached its zenith. The final masterpiece was a harmonious blend of their efforts, a testament to their dedication and the unifying power of music.
Among the participants, three of our students—James K., Isabella C., and Roshan R.—embraced this challenge with open hearts and minds. Isabella C. arranged and performed After the Rain by M. Stitchev, a piece from her Guitar RCM Level 6 repertoire, in a beautiful duet with flutist Noemi B. James K. and Noemi B. brought to life the vibrant rhythms of Astor Piazzolla’s Libertango. Roshan R., alongside Enrica , delved into the spirited world of Celso Machado’s Pachoca (Choro).

This venture not only highlighted the adaptability and creativity of our students but also underscored the endless possibilities within virtual collaborations.
