We’re ready for another incredible experience in Italy with the Lanciano International Guitar Seminar, this year at its 7th edition. The event will take place from July 31 and August 5 and will feature among the faculty two big names in classical guitar from the two continents, Europe and the US: Frédéric Zigante and Joao Luiz (Brasil Guitar Duo). Permanent faculty are Michael Newman and Laura Oltman from the Newman & Oltman Guitar Duo, beside myself.
The festival includes master classes in the morning, and workshops, presentations and ensemble coaching in the afternoon. Evenings are dedicated to performances and social gatherings. Participants will have the opportunity to learn from masters, play in newly formed ensemble with fellow colleagues from all over the world, and to perform in four different settings, a Roman Auditorium, a Medieval Castle, a private theatre and a concert hall in a restored cave in a mountain town.
The event will end with an outreach project in the small town of Salle, the land of gut string makers from the Middle Ages, where we’ll learn about the old tradition of instrument-strings making when they were made of natural guts. Can you believe the two of the biggest string companies active today- and our amazing sponsors – D’Addario and LaBella, come from that town?

Please note that registration fee is very low compared to equal events in the USA, just 260 Euros (around $280) for the entire event. Hosting in Lanciano is around $35-$60/night in Bed and Breakfast/Hotel or Agriturismo. Food is of course amazing but also very cheap! So it’s overall an experience not to be missed!
