Italian-naturalized American guitarist and musicologist Isabella Abbonizio holds a PhD in musicology from the University of Rome, an MA with honors from the University of Bologna, and a Guitar Diploma from the Conservatory of Bologna.

A passionate performer and educator, Isabella brings over 20 years of teaching experience in both the USA and Italy. She works with children, teens, and adults of all levels, from complete beginners to advanced and pre-professional students, offering personalized instruction tailored to each student’s goals and learning style.

Isabella is a Royal Conservatory Certified Guitar and Music Theory Teacher, as well as an Examiner and Presiding Examiner for The Royal Conservatory of Music. Throughout her career, she has guided hundreds of students toward exceptional results, including RCM Gold Medals and Awards of Excellence. Each year, selected students are invited to perform at Carnegie Hall at the Celebration of Excellence Award Recital.

Her students consistently reach their full potential—whether preparing for RCM certification (Prep–Level 10), college and conservatory admissions, or public performances—thanks to Isabella’s strong emphasis on technique, musicianship, and confident performance skills.

A Research Affiliate at New York University and a member of The Royal Conservatory College of Examiners, Isabella combines academic depth with real-world performance and pedagogical expertise.

As an active performer, Isabella appears internationally as a soloist and chamber musician and is a founding member of the Artemis Guitar Duo (with guitarist Katty Mayorga) and the Aris Duo (with flutist Sarah Rulli). With these ensembles, she has developed original repertoire, featuring new music by emerging and female composers with pieces dedicated to the ensembles. In 2018 she was featured by Ramirez Guitars at NAMM Show in Anaheim CA. Isabella has performed in masterclasses with renowned guitarists such as Judicaël Perroy, Roland Dyens, Frédéric Zigante, Paulo Bellinati, Martha Masters and João Luiz.
