“From my mentors I learned the importance of listening to the sound we have inside ourselves: there, there are no shelves to classify the music in categories and no smart career choices. There, there is just the sound.”
Guitarist Marco Cappelli studied at the Conservatorio di S. Cecilia in Rome (Italy) and then with Oscar Ghiglia at the Musik Akademie in Basel (Switzerland). Since the mid 90s, he has pursued an extraordinary artistic path, becoming familiar with both rigorous written music and free improvisation languages. Nowadays Marco works and performs internationally as a contemporary music interpreter and side musician, as well as a band leader for his own original musical projects.
The diversity of Marco’s performances has resulted from a fascinating array of collaborations: Anthony Coleman, Michel Godard, Butch Morris, Franco Piersanti, Jim Pugliese, Enrico Rava, Marc Ribot, Adam Rudolph, Elliott Sharp, Giovanni Sollima, Markus Stockhausen, Cristina Zavalloni, Raiz … and many more.
In addition to his extensive activity as a peformer, Marco Cappelli teaches intensively: he is guitar professor at Conservatorio “V. Bellini” in Palermo (Italy) and Associate Professor at Columbia University Music Performance Program in New York. He has worked as assistant with Mrs Sharon Isbin at Aspen Summer School (2006), and has been “guest professor” at Julliard School, Mannes College, and New York University in New York, and at Cal Poly University in Los Angeles, at DIM in Mexico City and at Guadalajara University.
